About the Old World

Welcome to the Minecart Rapid Transit Server!

Hi there! My name is Frumple, and I am a transit nerd, though I prefer the more respectable term “transit enthusiast”. I love riding and talking about public transit, everything from buses to trains, routes and stations, and even related topics like urban planning and architecture.

Over a year ago, I discovered this game called Minecraft, and was intrigued by the possibility of building a minecart-powered rail system within the game. After seeing other rail systems, particularly Hattericus’ second version of his Ultimate Subway, I was inspired to invent my own system, one that would be feature-rich, foolproof, easy-to-use, and could be used on a multiplayer server.

The result is the Minecart Rapid Transit Station. It’s gone through several iterations, but the latest version 4.1 can be seen in this video:

The older version 3.0 of the MRT Station also still works in Minecraft 1.2.5:

About the MRT Server

The MRT server is a vanilla, greylisted, freebuild Creative Mode server. It features a large world (6400 by 6400 blocks in size) that has an extensive network of 84 MRT v4.1 stations on 4 complete transit lines. To get a better sense of the whole network, check out these timelapse videos I made for each line: Blue, Green, Yellow, Red.

Also, check out this video where I give a tour of Spawn Station, the central hub of the server:

Anyone can join the server as a Guest and ride any of the MRT lines, but they won’t be able to build or modify blocks. To get building privileges, players will need to apply to become a member using our on-line form. Once approved, members can build anywhere outside of the stations. Unlike a lot of other creative servers, we don’t use a plot protection plugin. Land is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and I’m hoping that players will use their common sense and respect other people and their creations.

I would like to build a friendly and mature community around this server, hopefully with plenty of ongoing building projects and special events. If you have any comments or suggestions about the server, please feel free to drop me a line via the Contact page.
